Of course, though more often not I’m more tempted to give up on my own efforts because they accomplish exactly what I want to accomplish. Believe it or not I actually have to fight that feeling off sometimes if I’m to get any work done. It’s a flaw of logic, I’m totally aware of that, but when it comes to creative endeavors my feelings elbow my brain in the gut and run off with it’s purse, so to speak.
Artists like BT, Bjork, Clark, Boards of Canada, Bibio, The Avalanches, The Books, James Blake, Jon Hopkins, Caribou, Blur, etc. These people absolutely blow me away with their work and I can’t begin to fathom how such creativity was achieved. I hope to accomplish that in my own work. If not now, someday.
But, I truly hope to be an artist that motivates others to make things. I want other people to feel they can do better than me, and most importantly I want my listeners to push themselves to facilitate that. I want to inspire other people to make amazing work and enrich all of our lives. I know how idealistic it sounds, but ultimately that’s what I want.
